On Saturday, March 23, 2019 the Greek Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Elena Kountoura, visited the Neorion Syros Shipyards.

The Minister took a guided tour of the shipyard and afterwards meetings and discussions followed with the administration of Neorion Syros Shipyards and the Workers Union where she was briefed on the re-operation of the shipyards that stimulated the development of the island of Syros economy and created new jobs, along with tourism.

Mrs. Kountoura expressed her enthusiasm for the renaissance of the historic yard and stated that her ministry will be helpful every moment in the new start for Neorion as the country’s tourism has always been positively influenced by any new big scale investment in the economy.

Since last spring, 63 ships have been repaired in Neorion, a historical record for the yard, thanks to the growth of demand and confidence that they have shown the Greek ship owners to the craftsmanship of the workers of Syros.

By this way Neorion Syros Shipyards in this new era, is a catalyst for the revitalization of the economy of the island of Syros, the Greek economy in general and confront the chronic unemployment and immigration of many skilled shipbuilders.
