A message from the Founder

Rebuilding Sovereignty Through Industrial Power.

The ONEX Group inspired, believed in, and revitalized the Greek shipbuilding industry, and is now moving forward with steady steps into the next day of its global growth. The ONEX shipyards in Elefsina and Syros have now become the leading shipbuilding force in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean. With the strategic support of our American partners and through global alliances, such as Project 'Trident', we prove that our homeland is no longer a spectator, but a protagonist. We are transforming ONEX shipyards into a global strike force and sending a clear message to the international maritime community: Greece is back to lead, raising an unshakeable beacon of security, technological excellence, and stability for the entire West.

Key milestones

Establishment of Syros Shipyard

Establishment of Syros Shipyard

Founded in Ermoupolis in 1861, the Syros Shipyard marked the beginning of modern shipbuilding and heavy industry in Greece. Originally created to support the growth of steam navigation, it became one of the country’s most important industrial facilities, contributing to ship construction, repair, engineering and maritime innovation for more than 160 years.

Establishment of Elefsina Shipyard

Establishment of Elefsina Shipyard

Founded in 1962 in Elefsina, Western Attica, the shipyard was developed to strengthen Greece’s industrial and shipbuilding capabilities. Beginning operations in 1969, it evolved into one of the Mediterranean’s major shipbuilding and repair facilities, supporting commercial shipping, naval programs, industrial construction, and heavy manufacturing for decades.

Establishment of ONEX Group

Establishment of ONEX Group

Founded in 2004 by Panos T. Xenokostas, ONEX began with a focus on technology systems and business solutions, built around innovation and advanced engineering capabilities. Over time, the Group expanded into shipbuilding, maritime services, energy, infrastructure, and industrial operations, evolving into one of Greece’s leading industrial and technology groups with an international footprint.

ONEX takes over the management of Elefsina Shipyard

In 2022, ONEX Group assumed management of the historic Elefsina Shipyard, launching one of Greece’s most significant industrial revival projects. The transition marked the beginning of a comprehensive restoration and modernization effort aimed at reactivating shipbuilding, ship repair, and heavy industrial capabilities while strengthening Greece’s strategic maritime position in the Eastern Mediterranean.

ONEX BUSINESS SECTORS

Strategic industrial capacity in the Mediterranean

ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group is a dynamic Greek industrial group active in shipbuilding, ship repair, defense support, technology, and critical infrastructure. By revitalizing the Syros and Elefsis shipyards, ONEX restores strategic industrial capacity at a key crossroads of the Eastern Mediterranean.

The ONEX Defense & Naval Industrial Platform

Building the Future of Sustainable Industry

ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group is developing a strategic energy and green solutions platform focused on maritime decarbonization, offshore energy infrastructure, sustainable industrial modernization and critical energy support systems. The Group’s environmental and energy positioning is grounded in its existing strengths: shipyards, heavy fabrication, offshore experience, digital systems, logistics and industrial execution. This gives ONEX the ability to support the green transition not only conceptually, but through real infrastructure, vessel programs and industrial operations.

Connecting Industry, Rail & Logistics

ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group is expanding its industrial platform into transportation and critical infrastructure through rolling stock, railway systems, metro infrastructure, smart networks, integrated systems and logistics corridors. The strategy is based on the Group’s ability to reuse and upgrade existing heavy industrial infrastructure for new national and regional needs. ONEX Shipyards in Elefsis and Syros provide the industrial base; ONEX RSIS adds railway manufacturing and life-cycle support; TS&BS adds the digital backbone; and the Elefsis - Thriasio corridor creates the logistics connection between ship, rail, and warehouse.

Integrated Maritime & Logistics Systems

ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group is developing an integrated port and logistics platform in Elefsina (Greece), designed to transform Western Attica into a leading maritime, trade, and logistics hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. The initiative combines intermodal port operations interconnected with the national railroad and highway system, logistics infrastructure, industrial services, and strategic maritime support together with shipyard facilities into a single multipurpose ecosystem. This is one of the clearest expressions of the ONEX master strategy: to create a Port-Logistics and Shipyard dual use Hub capable of serving both commercial and military needs.
