ONEX SYROS SHIPYARDS at the GREEK SHIPPING SUMMIT 2020, Eugenides Foundation, June 5, 2019, Athens, Greece:  The rebirth and emergence of Neorion Syros Shipyards as the most important factor in the development of shipbuilding in Greece was only the beginning.

In a full amphitheater of the Eugenides Foundation and within the framework of GREEK SHIPPING SUMMIT 2020, Mr. Panos T. Xenokostas, President and CEO of ONEX Group, as a keynote speaker, held speech and presentation which received a warm welcome from the participants, representatives of Greek and international shipping.

Mr. Xenokostas presented the progress made in the modernization and upgrade of the Neorion Syros Shipyards.

He referred to the record number of the 85ships that have been docked so far since April 2018, to the conversion of Neorion into a “green yard” by applying new environmental friendly cleaning and production methods, the refurbishing of equipment, the opening of new jobs, and the ever-increasing benefits to Syros’s society.

He also stressed Neorion’s contribution to the vertical growth of the shipbuilding industry in Greece by 21% thanks to the reopening of the historic yard.

Mr. Xenokostas’ presentation was accompanied by a video documentary showing the past of Neorion, the promising presence and the even brighter future through new investments and facility extensions.

Towards the end of his speech, he briefly referred to the latest developments in the issue of the agreement reached for the acquisition of the Elefsina Shipyards by ONEX SHIPYARDS through filing in Article 106 of the Bankruptcy Code, which preserves the second largest shipyard of the country, maintains jobs and creates one of the most important yards in the Mediterranean Sea.
