On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, the South Aegean Region Governor, George Hatzimarkos and the Deputy Region Governor, Giorgos Leontaritis and Primary Sector Deputy Governor, Philemon Zannetidis, visited the Neorion Syros Shipyards, Greece. During their visit they met with the General Manager of the plant, Mr. Vasilis Savvidis, the Director of Administrative and Financial Operations and Development, Mr. Yannis Perlepes, the Administration of the Workers’ Association and they had a tour of the shipyard.
In his statements, the Governor welcomed the positive developments in Neorion’s progress, that been achieved within the few months of its reopening by ONEX SHIPYARDS.
An exclusively positive impression and satisfaction created the environmental improvements and interventions. On one hand, the steps that have been made to replace sandblasting by modern waterblasting methods have changed the status completely and on the other hand, the gradual removal of the tens of thousands of tons of sand blasting waste that were piled for decades in the yard. It is worth mentioning that the company’s goals are the gradual transformation of the yard into a “green shipyard” with full recycling, the use of new technologies and an intelligent energy management.
In conclusion, they all congratulated the shipyards’ workers for the tremendous success of the yard at the international market under the ONEX SHIPYARDS. Since last spring 40 ships have been repaired in Neorion, thanks to the growth of demand and confidence that they have shown the Greek shipowners to the craftsmanship of the workers of Syros.
