ONEX NEORION SHIPYARDS LOVE DONATION TO THE HOUSE OF MINORS AND TEENAGERS IN SYROS

In a letter addressed to President and C.E.O of ONEX Group Mr. Panos Xenokostas, the President of Piraeus Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mr. Korkidis welcomes the investment initiative for the revitalization of the Elefsina Shipyards and invites him to a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Chamber in order to discuss issues regarding shipbuilding, which is a sector of crucial importance to the shipping industry and entrepreneurship in general. Specifically, the President of Piraeus Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mr. Vassilis Korkidis, stated that: “The investment interest that was expressed for the shipyards, which play a significant role not only in the shipping industry, but also in improving the country’s defense, is a first positive step in our government’s efforts to attract investments. These efforts should be intensified towards eliminating any bureaucratic entanglements and ideologies of the past, which have cost the economy and the country so much. The Chamber will assist in any effort to revitalize important shipyards in its area of responsibility.”

It was a great honor for us at ONEX to tour the Elefsina Shipyard with Mr. Adam Boehler, CEO of DFC, as the head of the United States delegation consisting of six different US government agencies with whom we share the same Vision, for the rebirth of Shipping and Shipbuilding in Greece and the creation of a Leading Hub, in the Southeastern Mediterranean and in Europe in general. We thank them all for their continuous support and we are especially thankful for Mr. Adam Boehler’s and his team from DFC for the excellent and close cooperation the past few months. A big thank you, once again, to the Ambassador of the United States of America, Mr. Geoffrey Pyatt, and the Embassy team for their excellent coordination and continued support to our common Vision for Greek Shipyards.

A guided tour of the Elefsina Shipyard by the President and CEO of ONEX Group, Mr. Panos Xenokostas, and the Greek Government’s delegation, represented by the Minister of Development, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, and the Deputy Minister of Development, Mr. Nikos Papathanasis , to the U.S Government’s representatives led by CEO of the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Mr. Adam Boehler, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs, Department of Energy Mr. Matthew Zais, President and Chairman, of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Ms. Kimberly Reed, and the U.S Ambassador to Athens, Mr. Geoffrey Pyatt. The members of the US Delegation that participated in the visit were: U.S International Development Finance Corporation, USAID, EXIM (Export-Import Bank), DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY, NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL.
